My Proposal

I have found that I am very interested in taking images, portraits specifically and then using physical manipulation techniques to create unique, visually stimulating images using colour. My goal is to create a set of images that will stand out against others when they are presented in a gallery setting.

I will be photographing with a medium format and possibly 35mm camera in black and white. This is so that I can develope the film and create prints instantly using the facilities that are available. Potentially I could make prints the size of a postcard and directly use them to experiment and use as original art.

My images intend to be subjects of entertainment. Therefore I am intending for them to be shown in a gallery setting or maybe personal collections.

I think that it will be fairly easy to get access to the sets because I will only need a white backdrop. I will be asking friends and family to model for me so that should reduce the unlikelyhood of not having available models. I also own a reliable 35mm film camera so the only question is whether I can rent a medium format film camera from my college technitian. The darkroom is also available 5 days a week so that is not a problem.

However I may have to talk to tutors and students for another department to gain the skills to mono print, screenprint and possibly paint.

The main risks are probably going to be from when I am using the chemicals in the darkroom and the inks/paints that I might use. I might have to wear appropriate protective clothing and use equipment to ensure that myself and others are safe from them. When using the studio I won't have to worry about cables because it is a ceiling mounted lighting system.

I will have to research not only relevant practitioners but also styles of postcards and organisations that work with professionals to produce unique and original pieces of work. I will also look at postcards that I find that inspire me. The research into the techniques like mono printing will also be included.

I intend to start taking photographs in the second week of the project giving me time to proccess film, prints and experiment with manipulation. Hopefully this will also allow me some time to research at night when I'm slightly less busy with other commitments.
